Question and Answer Session at the University of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Teaching Centre following a screening of Robert Mullan’s film ‘Mad to Be Normal’. Starring David Tennant as RD Laing, the film profiles the Scottish psychiatrist’s alternative methods to treating and caring for people experiencing mental health difficulties in the counter-cultural environment of 1960’s London. Chaired by Athar Yawar, the panel consisted of Rachel Waddingham, Marjorie Wallace, Farnaz Arshid, Roland Littlewood and Robert Mullan. A lively Q&A session analysed Laing’s controversial methods and legacy, as well as the current state of mental health provision and research in the UK. The event was organised by the Balliol College Medical Society.
